At OOCL, we are committed to a greener future by offering our sustainable shipping solution that reduces greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in your logistics transport, bringing you a step closer to your sustainability goals.
OOCL Green is an additional service in E-Spot that offers you a simple way to compensate for GHG emissions from our surplus emissions reductions from our biofuel sailings. Regardless of the fuel our vessel uses, the Mass Balance Concept allows you to opt in for OOCL Green for any available shipments, not just those using vessels powered by biofuel.
Good as Usual
Our sustainable solutions are enabled by extra biofuel consumption in our sailings, helping to minimise your carbon footprint. Compared to alternative decarbonisation solutions, OOCL achieves your sustainability goals without compromising the speed or availability of our services.
Seamless Booking Process
You can access clear details on the costs and GHG savings for your shipments in advance before making a purchase, eliminating the need for lengthy negotiations.
Certification of Impact
At the end of the journey, you will receive an immutable Green Certificate detailing the total GHG offset and biofuel consumed – powered by blockchain technology. This certificate serves as both recognition and proof of your sustainability efforts.
OOCL is committed to delivering solutions that assure quality and reliability. We adopt biofuel backed by industry-leading certifications and emission estimations based on recognised standards. With OOCL Green, you can confidently meet your sustainability goals.
ISCC-Certifed Biofuel
OOCL utilises ISCC-certified biofuel for green sailings, ensuring the credibility of your savings.
International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) is a globally recognised certification system that ensures sustainable criteria for biofuel production, sourcing, and use of fuel in ocean transportation.
Clean Cargo Standard
Leveraging the Clean Cargo methodology and the Global Logistics Emissions Council (GLEC) framework, we share the calculation of emission estimations with most carriers.
We’ve also adopted Well-to-Wake approach to account for emissions from oil production to vessel consumption, ensuring calculation aligns with industry best standards.
Clean Cargo is a Smart Freight Centre Partnership of ocean carriers dedicated to tracking and reducing GHG emissions and sharing ocean container freight decarbonisation best practices.
GSBN-Issued Certificate
OOCL’s Green Certificates are issued by third-party organisation GSBN, ensuring the emission savings are genuiely allocated to your shipping order. With its blockchain technology, records in the certificate, such as biofuel data and emission savings are immutable.
Global Shipping Business Network (GSBN) is a blockchain-enabled platform that ensures secure data credibility, transparency and traceability.

Common Queries about OOCL Green
OOCL Green is an additional service on E-Spot that enables you to decarbonise your ocean freight shipments through the use of biofuel in OOCL vessels.
When you purchase OOCL Green, you’re investing in additional biofuel beyond what OOCL already uses for regulatory compliance and operational needs. This extra biofuel reduces emissions, and these reductions are then allocated to you and tracked via our emissions savings inventory.
Biofuel usage for OOCL Green is driven by demand. The more customers who choose OOCL Green, the more biofuel OOCL will purchase and utilise. By purchasing OOCL Green, you are directly contributing to accelerating the transition of sustainable shipping practices in general, consequently demonstrating your commitment to environmental responsibility. This can enhance your brand image and help you meet your sustainability goals.
We utilise ISCC-certified biofuel, specifically UCOME (Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester). This biofuel can achieve up to an 84% reduction in CO₂e emissions compared to conventional fuels like VLSFO when used as B100 (100% biofuel).
The Mass Balance Concept enables the attribution of achieved emission reduction from the biofuel consumed within our fleet to your shipments. The emission savings can be proportionally allocated to you regardless of the vessel carrying your cargo.
